The Research

3PM and GXN have launched an initiative to support laboratories’ transition towards a low-carbon future.

Our research discusses how to enable organisational change in science, improve operations within labs to support sustainable behaviours and what to consider during the design and construction of lab buildings.

Based on in-depth research with more than 50 lab owners, operators, and developers, Transforming to Zero provides practical guidance on decarbonising laboratories and life sciences buildings.

We are grateful to our collaborators, industry leaders and experts in the sciences ecosystem, who provided invaluable insights for this research.

The Team

We are independent, creative Project, Programme, and Portfolio Managers, blending personable professionalism with dynamic expertise. Specialising in science & technology projects and strategic advisory, we combine our innovative mindset to challenge the standard approach and promote a sustainable future for the industry.

James Buckley-Walker, Partner, 3PM

We are an independent design-driven research studio that pioneers strategic sustainability within the construction industry. Our work has a twofold remit. We aim to connect the dots between a healthy planet and human well-being. We do this in two ways: we promote a circular future by challenging the way we use and reuse resources in the building industry: and we elevate user experience by placing behavioural research at the centre of our work.

Founded by 3XN in 2007, we are currently represented in Copenhagen and London. The studio leverages experience from over 16 years of collaborative design research with leading companies and research environments to advance frameworks for generous and innovative behavioural and circular design.
